Identify battery chemistry instead of guessing
Read the markings on the installed cells, spare pack and power bank. Use those pages as an airport starting point, then apply the operating carrier’s more specific rule.
- Do not call an unmarked battery safe; find the label, manual or seller specification.
- Cover exposed terminals individually with original packaging, caps or nonconductive protection.
- Keep batteries away from coins, keys and metal merchandise.
- Prevent the light stick or power bank from switching on inside the bag.
- Ask the airline before travel when a rating is missing, damaged or above its published threshold.
Use the operating carrier, not a generic allowance
Open your itinerary and find the words Operated by for every leg. Then check that carrier’s cabin-baggage and dangerous-goods pages. The Asiana carry-on guide states Asiana’s own size and weight conditions, while its restricted-items page describes carrier-specific battery handling. Those limits should not be generalized to another airline.
On a codeshare, the company that sold the ticket may not operate the aircraft. Check each connection separately, including a domestic segment after an international flight. If two applicable carriers differ, ask them how the through itinerary will be handled and pack to the confirmed stricter requirement rather than hoping the first counter decides for both.
Protect albums, photocards and posters without creating a baggage problem
- Photograph valuable contents and receipts before packing.
- Place photocards in archival-style sleeves and a rigid protector that can still be inspected.
- Distribute dense albums so one bag stays within its weight limit.
- Cushion corners and discs; avoid over-tight straps that crush boxes.
- Measure a poster tube and ask whether it counts within the cabin-piece allowance.
- Keep irreplaceable items and documents with you only when security and carrier rules allow.

Check customs for the country you are entering
Receipts, quantity, value and whether goods are for personal use can matter at arrival. Review the destination customs authority’s current allowance and declaration method; departing Korea does not decide what another country admits. If airport or airline staff disagrees with your plan
Show the battery marking and the operating airline’s current rule, then follow security and carrier instructions. Do not conceal a cell inside merchandise or move a prohibited item between bags after screening advice. If an item cannot travel, ask about a lawful disposal, return or shipment option; never abandon a battery in an ordinary bin unless the airport directs you to a designated point.
