Use E-Gen as a live lead, not a guarantee
Open the E-Gen hospital and pharmacy search. The service is operated through Korea’s emergency medical information system and supports location or area-based searches. The public page explicitly tells visitors to confirm operating hours by telephone before visiting.
- Allow location access or choose the province, city, and district manually.
- Select 약국, which means pharmacy.
- Use the current-operation option when shown.
- Open the result and copy the Korean pharmacy name, road address, and phone number.
- Check the route in a Korean map app.
- Call before leaving and ask whether the pharmacy is still open and has the relevant medicine or ingredient.
Do not choose solely by the distance number. Check whether the pin is in the same district, whether the walking entrance matches the road address, and whether you can arrive before closing. A pharmacy inside a large building, terminal, department store, or hospital may follow the host building’s access rules.
Call with the ingredient, not only a foreign brand name
A medicine sold under one brand abroad may have a different Korean brand or may not be available in the same form or dose. Photograph the original package, prescription label, and active ingredient before the trip. When calling or visiting, show the exact active ingredient, strength, form, dose already used, and the reason it was prescribed.

Show the package and let the pharmacist type or write the answer. Translation apps can help with simple questions, but they can mistranslate drug names, negative statements, and units. Confirm the ingredient and dose from the printed label before taking anything.
Know when the pharmacy route has failed
Stop searching store by store if the situation is worsening, safe transport is no longer possible, the needed medicine requires medical assessment, or the pharmacist directs you to a hospital. For urgent medical help, use 119 and follow the dispatcher. A list titled “24-hour pharmacies in Seoul” can fail because hours, staffing, holidays, and building access change. Use the list only to identify a candidate, then verify on E-Gen and by phone. Never promise yourself that a store will have a specific medicine because it was mentioned in an old review.
Check the medicine before leaving
- Compare the active ingredient and strength with what the pharmacist explained.
- Confirm how much to take, how often, and for how long.
- Ask whether it should be taken with food and whether it interacts with current medication.
