Incheon to Busan on a Transit-Exclusive Domestic Flight: Check Your Ticket First

Your itinerary says Incheon (ICN) → Busan (PUS), but the airport codes alone do not identify the ticket product. Korean Air’s Transit Exclusive Domestic Flight guide describes a Busan or Daegu leg issued with an international flight as a linked ticket. It is not sold as a domestic leg alone. On that confirmed connection, immigration takes place at Busan or Daegu.

Before traveling, ask the issuer or operating airline to identify the product on your actual ticket. Do not infer it from a destination city, flight number or short layover. Also verify that the onward flight is offered on your date rather than treating a route described in a guide as a confirmed booking.

Confirm the ticket and baggage destination

Open the full itinerary, including the flight into Korea and the next flight out. Ask the issuer: Is this onward leg ticketed as a transit-exclusive domestic connection? Are both flights on the linked ticket? Which airport does the onward flight leave from? If you bought the international ticket earlier, ask whether the transit leg can be added; Korean Air does not promise that every ticket can be changed. Resolve the answer before depending on an airside transfer.

At your first check-in, show both flights and ask where the checked bag is tagged and where you will receive each boarding pass. Korean Air describes through-baggage handling for the eligible connection, but read the destination printed on your own bag tag. If it ends at ICN, or the staff cannot confirm the onward leg, resolve that mismatch before leaving the counter. Keep the baggage receipt and itinerary accessible during the connection.

At Incheon, follow the transfer route

If the airline has confirmed the linked transit-exclusive flight, follow the Transfer signs on arrival at Incheon, pass transfer security, and proceed toward the onward gate. Incheon Airport’s transit-exclusive flight guide says travelers need an onward boarding pass or e-ticket for transfer security and can use a transfer desk when a boarding pass has not yet been issued. Ask the airline desk while still on the transfer route if the pass or gate is unclear; having an e-ticket does not settle an unresolved ticket-eligibility question.

Do not follow the ordinary arrivals route through general immigration for a confirmed transit-exclusive flight. Korean Air’s Incheon transfer instructions say a passenger who passes Incheon immigration cannot board that flight. If signs, staff advice or your baggage tag conflict with your plan, stop and ask transfer staff before crossing into arrivals. Confirm entry permission and document requirements separately for your nationality and itinerary.

If your ticket is separate, or you already entered at Incheon

If the issuer cannot confirm the linked product, show the ticket numbers and baggage tag to the airline and ask what check-in, immigration, baggage collection and possible rebooking steps apply. Do not assume that two separately purchased flights will transfer the bag or provide the same route. If the onward airport is Gimpo (GMP), use the separate Incheon-to-Gimpo airport-change guide to plan the ground transfer and bag recheck.

If you have already passed general immigration at Incheon, tell Korean Air staff immediately which onward ticket you hold. Ask an airline service counter or the issuer to clarify available itinerary and rebooking options. Do not assume you can re-enter the transfer route. Keep your passport, both flight details and baggage receipt ready when asking for help.
