LOST112 in Korea: Report a Lost Item or Correct a Mistake

If you know the name LOST112 but cannot find its old reporting screen, start at the Korean police’s current Police Civil Complaint 24 portal. Its lost-property section separates “Report a lost item” from “Search found items.” One records your loss; the other searches reported finds. Seeing your item in the lost-report list does not mean someone found it.

Search the custody trail before filing

Write down the last place and time you definitely had the item, then the places you visited before noticing the loss. Ask the venue or transport operator that might still hold it. The police lost-property guide lists linked custodians including rail, transit and airports. Search found items using the item category, likely place and a wider date window, then contact the listed custodian about a plausible match. A blank found search is a reason to keep checking the likely operator and police route, not proof that the item was never recovered.

An English item name can miss records returned by its Korean equivalent. In an AI-assisted remote check on September 30, 2026, the public found-item search was used without signing in. With Seoul selected and the found-date range set to September 23–30, entering umbrella in 습득물명 (found-item name) returned 0 results. Changing only that field to 우산 returned 349 results. Those counts describe that check, not today’s inventory or a recovered personal item. If an English query returns nothing, try the Korean item word with the same filters before concluding there is no listing.

Open 자세히 보기 (Details) on a plausible result and compare 습득 장소 (where it was found) with 보관장소 (where it is held). The anonymous umbrella record opened in this check showed 보관중 (in custody), a 보관장소 연락처 (custodian telephone number), and an instruction to call before visiting. Use the contact on your matching record and confirm what identification and ownership evidence to bring. The check stopped at that public record; no report, identity verification, phone call or collection was performed.

If the item is still missing, use the portal’s lost-item report service. Prepare the loss location and approximate time, item type, color and distinctive features. Describe a phone by model and case, for example, without placing a full device identifier, account password or passport number in a public title. Save the submitted report’s management number and the confirmation. The police guide offers online filing and a staffed police-station route. If the portal’s account or identity step is inaccessible, ask at the police station for the staffed report route; do not use someone else’s account to create a report in your name.

Fix a wrong report before it sends you down the wrong search

The police’s correction Q&A says an online lost report cannot be edited: cancel the receipt (접수해지) and file the corrected report. Its instructions say to open My Page → Lost-Report Progress (마이페이지 → 분실신고 처리현황), select the report’s management number and use the cancellation button on its detail screen. Record the old management number and the new confirmation so you can distinguish them later. This account-only step was not performed in the public search check. If you cannot find the cancellation control, filed at a police station, or already have a possible match, contact the receiving station with the management number and ask how to correct the record before cancelling or creating another report.

A police report also does not replace action for a stolen item or immediate safety concern. The current service describes the ordinary lost-item filing route as loss rather than theft. For a missing passport, contact the embassy or consulate of the country that issued it and follow its document-replacement instructions. For something last seen in an airport terminal or aircraft, the Incheon Airport custody guide explains why the airport, airline and police search can hold different records.
