If your SKT phone is lost, report the loss first and then ask about a rental device. If the phone is damaged but still with you, check whether the line is your own active SKT line and whether the device qualifies for SKT Happy AS. SKT’s rental guide and repair guide have different entry conditions. Confirm the store, documents and available device before making a trip.
A lost phone starts with the loss report
SKT lists 114 as a free SKT support route, 1599-0011 as a paid call route, and an agency or PC route for reporting loss. Use a channel you can actually access and keep the report confirmation. A lost line is not eligible for Happy AS under the repair guide; do not undo a needed loss report just to seek repair. Ask SKT what happens to the line and how a temporary device can be used after the report.
The rental guide covers lost or damaged phones for SKT customers. If online identity verification blocks a rental request, ask a staffed rental-providing store about the in-person route. Call the store first for its hours, current inventory and the documents it will accept. The generic ID list does not confirm that a foreign passport alone is enough. Bring the line and loss-report details the store asks for, and keep a record of what device and return terms it gives you.
An eSIM-only setup needs another check before accepting a rental. SKT warns that not every rental model supports eSIM; a customer may need to purchase a physical USIM. Ask the store which device and line-activation route it can actually provide. A reserved-looking online screen does not prove that a suitable model is in stock.
For damage, check the line and the device separately
Happy AS requires an active SKT line in the applicant’s own name. Its guide excludes a line that is suspended, reported lost or not yet activated. It can also restrict a device bought from a manufacturer, overseas or outside SKT’s supported channel. Tell staff the line’s current state and where the phone was purchased before assuming carrier repair is available.
For a device that qualifies, the repair cost is determined after inspection. Back up data if the device still allows it. Password and address-book issues belong with the manufacturer route identified by SKT, rather than a promise that carrier repair will recover data. If Happy AS is unavailable, ask the manufacturer or the provider that sold the device which repair route applies; keep the rental decision separate from that hardware assessment.
Check rental charges and the return obligation
SKT’s published rental schedule distinguishes ordinary rental, free for the first 14 days and KRW 660 a day on days 15–31, from premium rental, KRW 660 a day on days 1–31. Both list KRW 1,320 a day from day 32, with VAT included. The guide allows up to three rentals per year and states a 180-day rental period including the start day. Failure to return the device may incur a penalty; the guide does not give a fixed penalty amount. Fees can be placed on the phone bill or paid with Rainbow points under its rules. Confirm the exact category, model, return deadline and charge for your case before taking the device. Before returning it, remove your photos, messages and other personal data, as the guide instructs.
Before visiting a store, keep the loss-report confirmation if the phone is missing, or confirm the active-line and device requirements if it is damaged. Ask about stock, documents and the return deadline. A rental phone may restore access to a line, but it does not by itself resolve the app identity checks covered in the Korea phone-number verification guide.
