If you missed a Korea Post registered letter, do not count on an automatic second visit. Read the delivery notice for the office holding the item, mail class and collection deadline. If that office offers recipient-requested redelivery, ask for a second attempt within its actual hold window. Otherwise, confirm how to collect the letter at its counter before the deadline. The local office’s notice controls your item; recent announcements have different start dates and handling details.
Which office holds the letter, and until when?
Keep the paper or mobile missed-delivery notice and check the item number, delivery office, attempted date and stated hold period. A web page’s regional menu or banner may not identify the office that wrote the rule in its body. For example, the Goyang Ilsan notice effective March 19, 2026 appears under a broader Incheon web shell. It describes one delivery attempt in principle, a second on the recipient’s request, a four-day hold after the first attempt and a three-day hold after a second attempt. Check which clock the actual delivery office applies to your letter rather than assuming those periods apply everywhere.
A separate Gwanak notice effective October 1, 2026, displayed under a Yongsan web shell, states a four-day period excluding Saturdays and public holidays and allows a recipient to request redelivery during that hold window. It does not set a nationwide start date. The two notices show why the office named in your delivery record matters more than the site banner or a general rule remembered from another area.
Can you request another attempt for this mail class?
The Ilsan notice lists mobile message, Internet Post, app and 1588-1300 phone routes for a recipient’s second-delivery request. The Gwanak notice lists internet, mobile and call routes. Use the channel shown for your office and request within its deadline; do not assume submitting a request guarantees a particular delivery time. Ask whether someone eligible to receive the registered letter will be available at the address.
The Ilsan notice excludes special delivery, custom-contract items, content-certified mail and insured mail from its stated second-attempt arrangement. For delivery to a guard desk or management office, it also says the designated-place handoff cannot occur if staff refuse to receive and sign for the item or refuse to give their name. If your item or building fits one of those cases, ask the holding office what collection or other handling route applies instead of repeatedly pressing the redelivery button.
If the app or phone verification blocks you
Call the delivery office shown on the notice, or take the notice and item number to a staffed Korea Post counter and ask which office has the letter, whether a second attempt remains possible, when the hold expires and what identity document the collector must bring. Do this promptly if the deadline is close. The published notices do not promise an English callback, acceptance of a particular foreign ID, or pickup at every branch. Confirm the actual counter and requirements before travelling.
