An ordinary ITX-Cheongchun ticket does not reserve a bicycle rack. For an unfolded, unpowered bicycle, KORAIL requires a designated rack-seat reservation before travel. Check that entitlement on your actual booking, not just the train name or a photograph of its racks. If it is missing, resolve the bicycle plan before reaching the platform; a normal passenger seat is not a place to leave the bike.
Book the rack entitlement for the exact train
KORAIL’s current ITX-Cheongchun FAQ locates four rack seats in car 1, seats 10A–10D, and four in car 8, seats 1A–1D. It says to reserve them in advance, does not allow bicycles to be parked elsewhere, and lists no extra rack-seat charge. The FAQ does not promise an available rack on your date. Recheck the train number, date and selected seat on the confirmation.
If the app does not show the option or your payment fails, ask KORAIL’s staffed ticket counter about a rack-seat booking for that service. Confirm both the seat and the available payment route before relying on it; this does not guarantee inventory or acceptance of your particular foreign card. Keep any existing booking separate until you know its change or cancellation terms.
If the rack is sold out, check a different carriage route first
For a bicycle you can fold or dismantle and enclose, ask KORAIL whether the packed item meets that specific service’s luggage rules, including dimensions and storage position. The sources reviewed here do not establish blanket acceptance of bagged bicycles. If that route is unconfirmed, choose a different available rack departure or leave the bicycle with an agreed custodian; do not carry it into an aisle as the fallback.
Do not substitute an old Mugunghwa rack seat map. KORAIL’s Mugunghwa/Nuriro FAQ says the rack-equipped Mugunghwa cafe cars were retired and rack-seat operation stopped November 5, 2022. Ask about your actual train instead of booking a historical amenity.
Check each metropolitan-train leg separately for its current bicycle days, times and conditions; the intercity rack reservation does not carry over. These steps concern an unpowered bicycle. For an electric cycle, start with the separate KORAIL lithium-device restriction; packing it does not establish an exception.
KORAIL’s current bicycle FAQs checked October 5, 2026 KST. No rack reservation or bicycle carriage was tested.
