The change fee is only one part of the quote. For a fully unused Trinity ticket, the airline says the fare, fuel surcharge and taxes are recalculated using the values in effect when the change is made.
Confirm that every segment is unused
Start with the ticket status, not the planned travel date. This rule applies to a fully unused domestic or international ticket across fare types. If any segment was flown, checked in, cancelled or marked no-show, ask Trinity which rule now applies instead of extending the fully unused calculation to that case.
If an older record still shows the previous T’way name or cannot be found in the expected screen, first follow the separate old-booking and airport-counter record check. Finding the booking and pricing its change are different tasks.
Compare four parts of the new quote
Trinity’s July 31, 2024 notice says that from August 1, 2024 at 09:00, changing a fully unused ticket applies the fare, fuel surcharge and taxes valid at change time, plus the change fee. The current Trinity FAQ also tells passengers that fare, tax and fuel-surcharge differences can arise.
Ask for an itemized quote showing:
- the replacement fare;
- the current fuel surcharge;
- the current taxes; and
- the separate change fee.
Then place it beside the original receipt. Do not subtract only the advertised change fee from the old total and assume the result is the amount due. Ask how the original payment is credited and what additional amount is payable now; the replacement total and the amount due are different figures.
Compare the change with a new booking before acting
Record the proposed flight, booking class, baggage or seat items, and the deadline for accepting the quote. Compare the additional change payment with the new-ticket price minus the issuer-confirmed net refund from cancelling the old ticket. If no refund is available, compare with the full new-ticket price. Refund eligibility and payout timing need separate confirmation; a refund that arrives later does not reduce the cash needed to buy the replacement now. A lower headline fare can still produce a different total once current components and add-ons are included.
Keep the old ticket active while comparing unless the airline says an immediate cancellation is required. Viewing a quote does not guarantee that its fare or seat will remain available. A new booking does not by itself establish the old ticket’s cancellation or refund status; confirm both records with the issuer.
If the quote is not itemized
Ask Trinity or the ticket’s issuer to identify each changed component and confirm that the record is still fully unused. Save the response with the old receipt and the proposed itinerary.
Do not rely on the 2024 effective date as a price lock. The notice defines which values are used; it does not freeze the fare, surcharge, tax, fee or availability for a later request.
