Coupang Gift Accepted? Cancel or Return by Order State

Check three facts first: has the recipient accepted the gift, has shipping started, and has delivery finished? Coupang’s current gift FAQ assigns different actions to the buyer and recipient at different states. A control for one state does not prove that it works in another.

If the gift has not been accepted

The buyer can open My Coupang (마이쿠팡) → (MY쇼핑) Order List/Delivery Tracking (주문목록/배송조회), select the item and use Cancel Order (주문취소). The recipient can instead use Reject Gift (선물 거절하기) in the received gift message.

Coupang also says an unaccepted gift is automatically cancelled if the recipient does not accept it by the actual acceptance deadline. Read that deadline from the gift record or message; the FAQ does not state one universal number of days.

After taking an action, recheck the order state. A button press or message alone is not the final cancellation record.

If it was accepted but shipping has not started

The gift section does not state what happens in this exact interval. Do not assume that the buyer’s unaccepted-gift cancellation route still applies, and do not promise that acceptance creates an immediate refund right.

The buyer should open the original order and identify the controls actually offered for its current state. If none answers the problem, ask Coupang support what action is available for that order before dispatch. Preserve the order number, acceptance state and support answer. An inquiry does not guarantee cancellation, a fee-free outcome or a particular refund destination or time.

If acceptance was followed by shipping

Coupang says that when the recipient has accepted the gift and shipping has started, the item should be returned after delivery; return costs may apply. The buyer can use Exchange/Return Request (교환, 반품신청) from the selected item in My Coupang after delivery.

If the recipient needs to request an exchange or return after delivery, the FAQ directs the recipient to Coupang customer service at 1577-7011. That number is an inquiry route, not a promise of English service, foreign-SIM connection, identity bypass, free return or approval.

Do not borrow the buyer’s credentials or treat a transferred screenshot as control of the order. The buyer should keep the original account and order record; the recipient should keep the gift message, delivery state and any item evidence requested for the return.

If the message or account cannot be opened

The recipient should ask the buyer to check the original order’s current state: unaccepted, accepted before dispatch, shipping or delivered. That lets the supported actor use the control shown in the authoritative order instead of guessing from an old notification.

If access still fails, give support the order details available to the proper account holder and ask which actor must act. Do not repeatedly refuse, cancel or return across different screens until one state is confirmed; overlapping attempts can make the record harder to trace.
