KNPS Reservations: Holder, Companion and Waitlist Changes

Open My Reservation and check the product and booking state before cancelling a Korea National Park Service reservation. A confirmed shelter booking permits companion removal, not addition; removing the holder cancels their companions. A waitlist is not a confirmed stay, and changing the date is not a way to retain the same booking.

If the shelter booking is confirmed

The current KNPS shelter guide allows companions to be removed from a confirmed reservation, but not added. The Korean cancellation policy specifies that shelter companion headcount changes must be completed before 12:00 on the day of use. Check the displayed cancellation charge before removing someone. The date cannot be changed; if the booking holder removes themselves, the companions are cancelled too.

This is not a transfer route. The guide says a shelter registration cannot be sold, ceded or transferred. At check-in, the holder and companions must provide ID cards or passports. Keep the reservation in the holder’s own account and make sure the listed people match the group that will arrive.

If the holder can no longer travel, compare the consequence of cancelling the booking with arranging confirmed accommodation outside the park. Do not assume a companion can inherit the reservation or that a same-day entrance queue will replace it.

A waitlist place is not a confirmed stay

For a shelter waitlist, KNPS says the entry gives priority for an extra reservation place. It is not a place in an entrance queue. The current English guide says reservation-information changes are available only after confirmation, but another part of the same page refers to excluding or changing companions while waitlisted. Do not assume an unconfirmed entry can be edited. Check which control the actual account offers, or ask KNPS before changing the party.

The same guide is clear that a waitlisted shelter entry cannot be moved to another date or shelter. Confirmation does not turn it into a general date-change right: the confirmed-reservation section also says the date cannot be changed.

Check the product inside My Reservation rather than relying on email or SMS. KNPS describes those messages as supplementary and says delivery can fail. The current Korean policy page says waitlists are cleared at midnight two days before use, expressed by KNPS as 00:00 on the day before use.

The current policy expressly ties automatic cancellation after the original holder pays to campsite waitlists. Do not apply that clause to every shelter waitlist. The English shelter page contains broader wording, so the account’s live status is the safer record.

The campsite shortening exception is narrow

The current KNPS campsite guide says a waitlisted campsite date or site cannot be changed. It describes one narrow exception: changing a three-day, two-night stay to two days and one night.

Verify that the actual reservation record and campsite product offer that shortening control before relying on it. The exception does not create general availability or a right to move the booking to another date, another site or a longer stay. If the planned trip no longer fits the reserved period, compare the live change control with a separate, confirmed place outside the park before travelling.

Read the penalty and status before confirming a cancellation

KNPS’s current cancellation and refund policy connects the cancellation time with the refund and no-show state. On the same page, however, the refund table and the later no-show note do not describe a self-cancellation before noon in the same way.

Before pressing the final cancellation button, record the reservation state and read the penalty and resulting status shown for that booking. If the consequence is unclear, use the KNPS inquiry line at 1670-9201 during its listed weekday hours, 09:00–18:00 with a 12:00–13:00 lunch break. The inquiry line does not transfer a booking, bypass account access or guarantee service in English.
