UNIQLO Korea Exchange: Why the New Charge Comes Before the Refund

UNIQLO Korea treats an online exchange as two payment tracks. You pay for the replacement by credit card when requesting the exchange, while the original item follows a return process and is refunded only after it reaches the warehouse and passes inspection. A new order number is therefore expected; it does not mean the old item’s refund has already been completed.

This applies to an online exchange for the same product in another available size or color. Do not submit a separate return request for the original item after making the exchange request. UNIQLO’s online exchange guide says the exchange application already registers that return.

The right route depends on whether you can make the new card payment and whether a suitable store has eligible stock. UNIQLO’s public guidance does not establish that foreign-issued cards will work. If a card is declined, use the practical checks in our foreign-card guide rather than assuming the exchange has been registered.

What happens after an online exchange request

The replacement keeps the original purchase price, including the coupon-adjusted price. You pay that amount by credit card, and the completed request creates a new order number. The returned original then travels to the warehouse for inspection before its refund is processed.

For a customer-reason exchange, the stated collection fee is KRW 3,000 and is deducted from the refund. UNIQLO’s return and exchange policy says the fee is not deducted when the company recognizes a wrong item, quantity error, initial defect or delivery delay. Inspection can still determine that the issue was not the company’s responsibility, in which case the fee may be deducted.

Do not rely on a fixed courier or refund timetable. Check the original order and the new order separately: one shows the replacement purchase, while the other carries the return and refund status. Customer service can help check the status, but the exchange guide says it cannot submit the exchange application for you.

Act early because the official deadline wording conflicts

Two deadline descriptions appear in UNIQLO Korea’s current material. The exchange guide and the policy introduction describe a request period of 30 days including the dispatch date. A lower exclusion section on the policy page says a customer-reason request is unavailable after 30 days from the order date.

Those starting dates are not identical. Treat the earlier date as the practical limit, check both the order and dispatch dates, and confirm promptly through the official exchange page if either is approaching 30 days. Product condition and other exclusions still apply even when the date appears to qualify.

Collection details can require a separate support request

UNIQLO’s collection guide says collection is automatically registered at the original delivery address. If the order was originally collected from a store, you need to provide a pickup address. A phone-number or collection-address change goes through the official 1:1 inquiry form rather than the exchange screen.

The contact form requires a name, email address, phone number and inquiry details. Its phone field asks for the registered number or another reachable number, but the page does not confirm that every foreign number is accepted. Include both order numbers when asking about a registered exchange so support can distinguish the new purchase from the old return.

A store exchange avoids the second online payment in some cases

UNIQLO’s store exchange instructions allow an eligible online purchase to be exchanged without applying in advance. Bring the product and either a printed order confirmation or the purchase history shown on a phone. The paper option is useful if you cannot open the account at the counter.

A same-price store exchange does not create another online card charge. You can pay the difference for a higher-priced replacement, but a lower-priced exchange is excluded. Stock and product condition still control what the store can accept.

A store cannot refund an online purchase. After a store exchange, the exchanged item cannot later be returned or exchanged through the online route. Ask the store what later options remain before accepting the replacement.
