Do not use the SMS as proof that the seat is yours. Open the exact KORAIL reservation record, find whether a seat was allocated and read the payment deadline shown for that record. The reservation becomes a finished ticket only after payment and issuance.
Did KORAIL allocate a seat?
Match the record to the train date, departure time, route and passenger. A waitlist application, an allocation and an issued ticket are three different states. If the record still shows only a waitlist request, do not pay for or travel on the assumption that a seat has been assigned.
KORAIL’s current ticket-issuance FAQ says a reserved ticket must be paid before issuance is complete. It also says an unpaid reservation is automatically cancelled after its specified deadline. Use the deadline displayed in your record; the FAQ does not establish a universal midnight or 24-hour deadline.
What if no allocation text arrived?
KORAIL’s separate 2026 holiday-booking guide warned that an allocation SMS might not arrive because of carrier or spam filtering. Its September 2026 sale dates and special access rules do not set the payment deadline for your own reservation.
The useful check is still the reservation record. Do not wait for a text when a displayed payment deadline is approaching, and do not treat a text alone as proof of payment or issuance.
How do you finish the ticket?
Use the payment control attached to the reservation and an accepted payment method. KORAIL’s FAQ publishes website and KorailTalk paths for finding reserved tickets and paying, but menu wording can change. Confirm the train and passenger again before payment.
After paying, retrieve the record once more and verify that it now shows an issued ticket. Save the ticket record or number separately from the payment alert. A card authorization without an issued ticket, or an issued ticket for the wrong train, still needs attention.
What if login or payment fails near the deadline?
Record the error, time, reservation details and displayed deadline. The official FAQ lists 1588-7788 for KORAIL customer support. Ask what can still be done for the exact reservation before its deadline; if the short number does not connect from your phone, take the details to a staffed station counter. An inquiry does not promise that KORAIL will hold the allocation, bypass authentication or accept a particular foreign card.
If the allocation cannot be issued, check a separate train only through a route you can complete; the general KTX booking guide explains the broader purchase choices. Keep the failed reservation visible until you know whether it cancelled, so you do not create an accidental duplicate.
