Prepare the device before traveling to the service center. Apple Korea’s current instructions require more than carrying in the iPhone or iPad: protect the data, clear any unfinished repair state, use the Find My step for the installed OS version, and gather the records the center may need.
Protect the data and payment cards first
Back up the iPhone or iPad, then confirm that the iCloud features you use have finished syncing. Apple says the status beside “Saved to iCloud” should be green. A backup attempt and completed synchronization are separate checks.
Remove cards and passes from Apple Wallet. If Apple Cash is enabled on your device, Apple also says to turn it off in Settings → Wallet & Apple Pay. Then open Parts and Service History. If a part shows Finish Repair, Apple says that repair should be completed before the device is taken to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. If it cannot be completed, Apple warns that the part may incur an out-of-warranty charge or service may be refused.
Which Find My step applies?
Apple’s current service-preparation page splits the action by system version:
- iOS 27 or iPadOS 27 and later: turn on Prepare for Repair or Trade In for the device: in Find My, select the device, open More, choose Repair or Trade In, then Activate.
- iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 and earlier: turn off Find My for the device.
Do not replace that version check with an old universal instruction. If the device is unresponsive or a step cannot be completed, Apple says to complete as many steps as possible. The page also gives an other-device or icloud.com/find route for preparing or removing the device. Use the action Apple displays for the actual device; do not remove an unrelated device from the account.
What should you bring?
Check whether the chosen center requires an appointment. Apple says a Genius Bar reservation is required before an Apple Store visit. Bring the device and relevant accessories; for Apple Pencil help, that includes the paired iPad.
Apple also lists the purchase receipt when available because some repairs may require proof of purchase, plus a driver’s license, passport or other government-issued ID. The returned device may have been erased, which is why the completed backup belongs before the handoff.
Never give a technician the Apple Account password, device passcode or account-security details. If software support asks you to enter a password, enter it yourself and remain present while the technician can access the device.
When the device is returned, check whether it was erased and restore it from the existing iCloud or computer backup if needed. If you turned off Find My for service, turn it back on after getting the device back.
What if Apple’s purchase date is wrong?
A wrong estimated warranty or AppleCare expiry is a separate record problem. Apple’s purchase-date correction page requires the original proof of purchase. It says the receipt must show a clear device description, purchase date, invoice or receipt number, price, reseller contact information and device serial number.
Check those fields before submitting the correction request. Possessing a receipt does not itself prove coverage or guarantee that a foreign purchase will be accepted for a particular repair. Keep the correction record separate from the service appointment and ask Apple which issue must be resolved first.
