Wrong EMS Address After Posting in Korea? Ask for Correction or Return

If you notice a wrong address after mailing an EMS item from Korea, contact Korea Post as the sender promptly. Its international-mail address-change guide allows a sender to request correction, redirection or return for covered mail, but the request documents must reach the responsible office before the item is delivered. A request is a chance to intervene, not a guarantee that the moving parcel can be stopped.

Identify the parcel and choose the request

Keep the posting receipt, tracking number and a copy or photograph of the original address label. Check the latest tracking state, then write down the correct recipient name and full address. Decide whether you need a corrected label, a different delivery address, or return to the sender. Tell Korea Post which outcome you want; “please fix it” leaves the destination unclear.

The official guide says the claimant should be the sender and describes identification and proof of postage as evidence of that role. If you are the recipient who spotted the error, send the details to the sender immediately so the person entitled to file can make the request. Take those details to the posting office, or use the contact route on Korea Post’s linked guide. A counter visit gives you a route if your phone cannot reach the domestic customer-service number. Ask where to submit the documents and whether they can reach the responsible office in time. Include the original label copy if available.

Treat the delivery clock as a real limit

Korea Post distinguishes requests made before dispatch preparation from those made after preparation or dispatch. The latter follow an international postal process; the guide lists different charges by submission method. Ask for the current applicable fee and a request reference and confirm whether the documents were actually accepted. Keep the reply, original receipt and tracking record together.

If the item has already been delivered, Korea Post says this alteration or return request has no effect. Ask the sender and recipient to resolve the actual delivery outcome through the responsible postal route; do not expect a retroactive correction or automatic refund. If the item returns and you plan to mail it again, recheck current destination and contents acceptance with the EMS quote and acceptance guide before paying for a new shipment.
