Restaurant closing time, break time and last order are three different gates. Match the exact branch and date, then confirm whether the kitchen will accept the intended dish before traveling or joining a queue.
Reviewed August 24, 2026 against current VISITKOREA listings. Official tourism listings themselves show restaurants with separate operating, break and last-order times, and details can still change.
Match the exact branch
| Identity field | Why it matters | Save |
|---|---|---|
| Korean business name | Translated names can collide | Copy exact Hangul |
| Road address | Branches share brand names | Street address and floor |
| Telephone | Final same-day confirmation | Branch number, not headquarters |
| Date and weekday | Weekend and holiday hours differ | Arrival date in Korea time |
Separate the three clocks
| Clock | What it normally means | What it does not guarantee |
|---|---|---|
| Operating hours | Doors or venue generally open | Kitchen accepts every dish |
| Break time | Kitchen or dining pauses in interval | Entry immediately before the break |
| Last order | New orders stop at stated cutoff | A seat if queue is long |
| Menu-specific cutoff | One item or lunch course stops earlier | Other menu availability |
Build a time line, not one time
Write intended arrival, expected queue, ordering time, break start, last order and closing. A 20:00 closing with a 19:00 last order is not a 19:55 dining option.
VISITKOREA examples prove the fields differ
A current VISITKOREA restaurant listing shows weekday-specific operating hours, a break period and a last-order time as separate data. Use the pattern, not those exact hours, for another restaurant.
Check the date in Korea
Midnight, next-day closing, public holidays, Seollal, Chuseok, weekly holidays and temporary closures can change the result. Confirm in Korea Standard Time and state the weekday when calling.
Maps are a lead, not the final kitchen answer
A map may show the venue open while the kitchen is on break, the desired menu is sold out or last order has passed. Compare the branch’s own current notice, booking page and telephone.
Call with a concrete arrival time
- State the exact branch and Korean name.
- Say the date, weekday and expected arrival.
- Ask whether there is a break time that day.
- Ask the last order for the intended menu.
- Ask whether the current queue can still order before cutoff.
A useful Korean call script
“오늘 [시간]에 도착할 예정입니다. 브레이크 타임이 있나요? 라스트 오더는 몇 시인가요? [메뉴명] 주문이 가능한가요?” means: I expect to arrive today at [time]. Is there a break time? What time is last order? Can I order [menu]?’ Keep the Korean menu name visible.
Queue time is not an extension
Joining a line before last order does not always guarantee the kitchen will accept the order. Ask staff managing the queue whether your party can order the intended dish.
Lunch and dinner can have separate last orders
A restaurant can stop lunch orders, close for a break and reopen for dinner. Do not interpret the evening reopening time as permission to remain through the break.
Menu-specific cutoffs and sold-out items
Courses, noodles, barbecue sets or daily quantities can stop before the general kitchen cutoff. Ask about the exact Korean menu name, not only whether the restaurant is open.
Reservation does not erase a cutoff
Confirm arrival grace period, last order, cancellation terms and whether the reservation is for a seat or a specific course. Contact the branch if delayed.
If no break or last-order time is published
Do not invent one from similar restaurants. Call the branch, choose an earlier arrival with margin, or select a verified alternative nearby.
Create a fallback pair
Save one primary restaurant and one alternative with separate branch identity, hours and telephone. Prefer an option whose kitchen cutoff leaves enough travel and queue margin.
Arrival check at the door
- Correct branch and floor.
- Today’s temporary notice.
- Break-time sign.
- Last-order sign or staff confirmation.
- Intended menu still available.
After-hours alternatives
Choose a convenience store, packaged-food option or another currently verified restaurant rather than pressuring staff after cutoff. Dietary and allergy needs still require their own checks.
