At Toyoko Inn Korea, first establish whether staff agreed to hold your bag or merely found it after you left. The hotel’s Korean accommodation terms, Articles 14–15, give three different custody routes: pre-arrival luggage accepted for a confirmed stay, a requested deposit after checkout, and belongings left without a storage request. The time window and next contact depend on which one applies.
Before check-in: get the hotel’s agreement before sending a bag
For luggage arriving ahead of you, Article 15 allows storage only when the stay is confirmed and the hotel accepts the delivery. The permitted arrival window is the day before check-in or the check-in day; staff then hand the accepted bag over at check-in. A parcel tracking notice, or your assumption that every branch accepts deliveries, is not the hotel’s agreement. Ask the branch tied to your reservation before booking a courier, and confirm the name, arrival date and receiving instructions it will accept.
If the bag would arrive earlier than that window, ask the branch what it can actually accept rather than treating the published one-day rule as permission for longer storage. Once a branch confirms the arrangement, the general Korea luggage-delivery guide can help you check the courier’s own route and timing; it cannot approve hotel receipt.
After checkout: a requested deposit starts as same-day storage
Article 14 covers a bag you ask the front desk to keep after checkout. The hotel does not accept cash or valuables for that deposit and may refuse other items because of their type, available space or other circumstances. Its stated storage period is the checkout day. If the item remains uncollected, the terms allow holding it for up to one month while the hotel tries the contact details registered at check-in.
If the hotel cannot reach the guest and receives no return request within that month, the terms say it may treat the item as abandoned and report and hand it to a nearby police station. If police refuse it, the hotel may dispose of it. The hotel may charge costs incurred after the first day for contact, storage, return or disposal. This is not an offer of free month-long storage or a promise that every requested deposit will be accepted.
If the branch refuses a deposit or cannot approve your arrival time, keep the bag with you while checking a different storage option. The Korea luggage-storage guide explains how to check a staffed counter or locker against your bag size, payment method, access hours and retrieval time. A listing alone does not prove that it has space or that your card or phone can complete its payment flow. Confirm those conditions before travelling to it.
Left behind without asking: the found-item clock is different
Article 15 separately addresses luggage or belongings discovered after checkout when the owner gives no instructions or is unknown. The hotel holds them for seven days including the day of discovery. It then reports valuables to the nearby police station. Food, magazines and other items classified as disposable may be removed sooner, with disposal costs chargeable to the guest. The terms do not specify that all other belongings are automatically shipped or sent to police after seven days.
Contact the branch where you stayed with your stay dates, item description and last known location. Ask whether it accepted a deposit, found an item later, or has no match, and what collection or return arrangement it will authorize. The terms do not establish overseas shipping, a proxy-collection right, a fixed document list or a guaranteed recovery outcome. If staff confirm a transfer to police, use the Korean police found-item route to follow that custodian rather than assuming the hotel still holds it.
