How to Book Intercity and Express Bus Tickets in Korea as a Foreigner

Korean buses are useful for cities that trains do not serve well, but the booking system can feel split into too many names: express bus, intercity bus, Kobus, Bustago, TxBus, T-money GO, airport bus, and terminal counters.

Identify the correct bus system and terminal pair

Use Official KOBUS express bus booking service to identify the operator or official booking system for the exact terminal pair. Korean cities can have several bus terminals, and express and intercity services may use different systems.

Seven-field evidence record for one exact Korean intercity or express bus journey, separating service and terminal identity, selected departure details, payment state, issued ticket proof, and a counter or next-service fallback
For one exact intercity or express bus journey, keep seven fields separate: service type and official channel owner; exact departure terminal point; exact arrival terminal point; selected date, time, service, and seat; observed payment state; issued reservation or ticket evidence; and a terminal-counter or next-service fallback pointer. A search result or payment attempt is not an issued ticket. Missing or mismatched evidence remains unresolved. This record does not guarantee a current schedule, fare, seat, card success, sale availability, booking result, refund rule, boarding policy, or trip outcome. Save both terminal names in Korean

Record the Korean terminal names, city district, date, passenger count, luggage, arrival deadline, payment backup, and route from the destination terminal onward.

  • Arrival or departure point
  • Destination in Korean
  • Travel time
  • Luggage and payment backup

For major express routes, check Kobus. For many intercity routes, check Bustago or TxBus. If online booking fails, go to the terminal early with your destination, date, time range, and payment backup ready.

A visitor often says, ‘I need a bus to Sokcho, Jeonju, Gangneung, or a smaller city.’ Korea may split that trip into express or intercity systems. The departure terminal can also change the route. In Seoul, one destination might appear from Seoul Express Bus Terminal, Dong Seoul Terminal, Nambu Terminal, or another local terminal.

Confirm the operator, ticket, and departure bay

  1. Find the departure and arrival terminals on a local map and confirm that their Korean names match the booking result.
  2. Check whether the route is sold through the express-bus or intercity-bus system and review the operator and class.
  3. Compare departure, duration, rest stops, arrival terminal, fare, and cancellation terms.
  4. Complete the official booking or plan a staffed-counter purchase, then confirm how the ticket is collected or displayed.
  5. Save the booking and terminal route offline and arrive with enough time to find the correct bay.

The city name alone does not identify the terminal

The useful bus booking is tied to the correct terminal pair, operator, date, and issued ticket. Choosing only by the destination city can send the traveler to the wrong terminal.

The usual route or fare for Book Intercity and Express Bus Tickets in Korea as a Foreigner may fail after the last service, outside the coverage area, or when luggage and payment limits apply.

If the route or foreign-card payment is unavailable

Check the other official bus system and alternative terminals serving the same city before assuming no bus operates.

Ask the terminal counter or accommodation for the current purchase route and keep a rail or later-bus alternative.

Current official long-distance bus boundary

The exact city name does not identify a Korean long-distance bus. First separate express bus from intercity bus, then confirm the departure and arrival terminal points, operator, date, service, seat and issued ticket. The VISITKOREA express and intercity bus guide, updated June 5, 2026, directs travelers to KOBUS for express buses and TxBus or Bustago for intercity services.

Keep the Korean terminal names, issued-ticket evidence and onward route offline.
