Yes, a companion’s card is among the cardholder categories listed in Lotte Rent-a-Car’s rental requirements. Lotte says the debit or credit card may be issued in the name of the renter, driver, or companion, and that cash is not accepted. That wording does not confirm that every card will authorize, that an absent companion can pay, or that paying online and paying at the pickup counter follow identical checks. Confirm your particular arrangement with Lotte before depending on the car.
Decide where payment will happen
Lotte’s English FAQ describes online reservations with a Pay Now option or a Buy Now, Pay Later option. For the latter, it says international customers can pay when collecting the vehicle or through My Page, and lists debit and credit cards with Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. The FAQ says this later-payment option is available for reservations made on Lotte’s English, Chinese, and Japanese sites. A listed card network is still not a promise that your issuer will approve the charge.
Before choosing either option, tell Lotte which person is the renter, which person owns the card, and whether the cardholder will be at pickup. Ask whether that card can be used in the chosen payment route and what the counter needs to see. Lotte’s FAQ lists English reservation support at +82-2-797-8000 and reseng@lotte.net, on weekdays from 08:30 to 19:00 KST; use the selected branch for its pickup arrangements. An email inquiry can be sent without completing another payment. Do not plan around an absent cardholder until Lotte confirms the arrangement.
Keep the reservation confirmation and any payment confirmation separately. A reservation number establishes a booking record; it does not prove the rental fee has been paid or that pickup is complete.
Keep the renter and payer roles straight at pickup
Lotte’s pickup process asks for the reservation number and renter’s name, then confirms the booking, finalizes the rental details, takes payment, and completes the agreement and vehicle handover. Its FAQ says the person who made the reservation must collect the vehicle; someone else who wants to collect it needs a separate reservation. A companion’s eligible cardholder name does not automatically make that companion the renter.
If the companion will also drive, ask Lotte to add them under its additional-driver process at pickup. Lotte says an additional driver must meet its rental criteria. The operator also requires the relevant passports and original international driving permits for international renters and drivers. Changing the driver or renter merely to match a payment card could create a separate pickup or eligibility problem.
If the card or arrangement fails
First identify the stop point. If Pay Now failed, check whether an order and charge were actually recorded before submitting payment again. If the reservation exists but payment is due at pickup, show the reservation and ask the counter whether the proposed cardholder arrangement can be completed there. Record the exact reason given if it cannot.
Ask whether another card held by the renter or eligible driver can be used, subject to Lotte’s current rules and the issuer’s approval. If no workable payment method is available, notify the rental branch and check your cancellation or no-show terms before abandoning the booking. For onward travel, ask staff about a taxi stand or accommodation-desk booking and confirm the fare and payment method before accepting the ride. A taxi app using the same rejected card may leave you stuck again; the Korea taxi app guide includes setup checks and non-app alternatives. For an attempted card payment, use the foreign-card troubleshooting guide to separate the merchant step from an issuer decline.
