Naver Navigation: Driving and Transit Routes in Korea

Use the Navigation tab in NAVER Map when you are driving in Korea. Use Transit for buses and subways, and Walking for the final trip on foot; choosing the wrong mode can send you toward a station exit instead of a vehicle entrance.

Choose Navigation for a car trip

The official NAVER Maps, Navigation listing on Google Play separates Navigation from Transit and says the app provides real-time traffic information for driving. It also lists English navigation and maps in Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese. Check that you have opened Navigation before you start a car route.

Confirm the destination and vehicle entrance

Search the exact Korean place name or road address and compare the branch, building, and map pin with the destination’s own page or your booking. A pin at a pedestrian entrance may be wrong for a rental car, taxi drop-off, or parking garage.

  • Save the Korean road address outside the app.
  • Look for a separate parking, loading, or vehicle entrance.
  • Check the branch name when several places have similar names.
  • Keep a second contact or route option if the pin is uncertain.

NAVER’s official driving-route help also says the vehicle type can be set under the app’s Navigation settings and affects the optimized route. Set the vehicle type before comparing routes if it matters for the trip.

Compare route choices before moving

NAVER says a driving search can show three to six route choices, with a recommended route that considers real-time traffic and charges. Compare the alternatives, the final turn, and the destination pin before leaving rather than relying only on the first result.

A route result does not confirm that a garage is open, a drop-off is permitted, or the selected entrance is available. The destination or parking operator controls those details.

Add a waypoint only when the car route needs it

Use a waypoint for a planned pickup, rental-car return, or intermediate stop. NAVER’s origin, destination, and waypoint help says up to five waypoints can be set for driving, walking, or cycling routes, while Transit does not provide waypoint entry.

Switch to Transit or Walking when the trip changes

Open Transit when you need a bus or subway route, then switch to Walking for the last leg from the stop or station. Do not treat a transit result as a driving route or use a station exit as the car destination.

NAVER’s official walking-route help warns that a route can differ from actual conditions after road or crossing changes. Follow the conditions around you and verify the final entrance.

If the pin or route looks wrong

Retry the Korean road address, compare the destination’s official page, and inspect nearby branch or building names. If the final location is still uncertain, show the saved Korean address to hotel staff or the driver and confirm the entrance before continuing.

For a public-transit data problem, NAVER provides an official route-information correction process. Keep a practical backup route while a correction is pending.
